Death of Mrs. Betsey Mickey.

[Special to The Hawk-Eye.]

Newport, Ia., May 23,- Betsey Ann Mickey, wife of Oliver P. Mickey, departed this life May 22, 1899. She was born in Green county, Pennsylvania, April 26, 1826. She, with her father, Geo. Davison and his family, removed to the then far and new west to near Burlington, Iowa, about in the year 1840. She was married to Oliver P. Mickey December 5, 1844, and they commenced life's battles poor, but with a strong purpose to fill a useful and humble mission in life, and their hardships with all pioneers were many. About three years after their marriage they removed to this (Louisa) county and for a half century has made this her home and the humble and good people here her associates. To this good and faithful mother and her companion in life until about seven years ago was born nine children, John H., George F., Adaline T., Albert P., Weston, Basil S., Thomas B., William O., and Iona Ann. Three of these dear ones have departed this life and six are left to mourn her departure from this earth life, and all these were permitted to be at her bedside many days and receive her blessings and to smooth life's last days for her as best they could as she lay uncomplainingly on her bed of severe pain, yet rejoicing in the blessed consolation that the Lord is good and doeth (sic) all things well, and said she had fought the good fight of faith and was going home to meet her loved ones gone before. The eldest of this large family who sketches these outlines of the life of this pure and good mother, who is now fifty-four years old, can well remember in his early childhood days her Christian devotion, and always did these faithful parents keep kindled the fire of a true love and devotion to God to whom they both in early life consecrated their lives. Her life has been lonely since her husband suddenly was taken by the ruthless hand of death from her, and although she dearly loved her children, she longed to depart earth's scenes and be with her loved ones gone before, and the promises in God's holy word were her comfort and stay. These faithful Christian parents with a few other holy men and women helped to establish the Protestant Methodist church in this community, to which she belonged for fifty years and was a humble and devout member until the day of her death, and is now a participant in the blessed realities of the Church Triumphant.

The funeral occurred at the Fairview church at 3 o'clock to-day, conducted by Rev. Aubrey of, of Oakville, and Rev. Mr. Pool, of Wapello.
