August Frank "Gus" Vahle, 65, of Burlington, died at 8:40 p.m. Friday Sept 20, 2002, at Great River Medical Center.

Born Jan 24, 1937, in Burlington, he was the son of Lorenz Henry and Florence Marie Brookhiser Vahle.

He is a member of Spring Grove Methodist Church, the Burlington National Guard, Alpha Company 224th engineers and Des Moines County Riding Club. He enjoyed football, fishing, western movies, cartoons, horses, camping, cats, dogs and home cooked meals.

Survivors include one son, Bruce A. Vahle of Mediapolis; two daughters, Cheryl K. Smith and Julie A. Nixon, both of Burlington; six grandchildren; two sisters, Emma L Bruhl and Jean Day both of Burlington; three nieces and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

His body has been cremated.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Prugh's Chapel.

The memorial service for Mr. Vahle will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Prugh's Chapel with the Rev. David Mison officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Burlington Memorial Park.
