Mr. Coad Seriously Injured.

Last evening about 8 o'clock Mr. James Coad, residing at Ninth and Angular streets, was crossing Main street near the corner of Angular, when he was run into and knocked down by a delivery wagon driven by a careless boy. The end of the shaft struck Mr. Coad in the ear and he was knocked senseless in the ground. He was picked up and carried into Dr. Caster's infirmary, but was subsequently removed in a carriage to his home. It is feared the skull has been fractured at the point of contusion. Mr. Coad was prostrated completly bv the shock and the real extent of his injuries may not be determined for a day or two.

The accident that befell Mr. James Coad Saturday afternoon, the details of which were related in the Sunday HAWKEYE, proved fatal, death coming to Mr. Coad about noon Sunday. He never regained consciousness and suffered great agony until relieved by opiates.

The shock caused by the blow from the end of the shaft in the car was sufficient to fracture the base of the skull, causing hemorrhage at the mouth, nose, eyes and ears.

Mr. Coad was about sixty-two years of age and an employe of the West Burlington shops. He is survived by his wife and four children, two sons and two daughters. The sons are Messrs. George and Harry Coad, and the daughters Miss Kate Coad and Mrs. Park Strickland.

Mr. Coad was a native of West Virginia, and came with two brothers to Iowa where all followed the carpenters trade for many years. John and Henrv Coad. the brothers, became farmers near Danville, this county, and James had for many years been a machinist at the West Burlington shops. He was a faithful, capable workman, an honest man and held in high esteem. All who knew him. The sad circumstances of his death have prostrated his own family and the family of the boy who was the unwitting cause of his death.
