Dorothy Sebastian

Dorothy L. Swygard Sebastian, 96, formerly of San Francisco, died at 735 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, 1997, at Burlington Medical Center's Klein Unit where she had been a resident since 1992.

Born Sept. 30, 1900, in Mediapolis, she was the daughter of Charles F. and Caroline L. Hummel Swygard. She married Don Sebastian Feb. 20, 1951, at San Francisco. He died in 1960.

She was a graduate of Oakville High School and Iowa Methodist School of Nursing in Des Moines.

Mrs. Sebastian was a registered nurse at Rideout Memorial Hospital in Marysville, Calif., retiring in 1973. She then moved to Burlington to live with her brother, Herman.

She was a lifetime member of the Order of Eastern Star of Marysville.

Survivors include two nephews, Glenn F. Hartman of Lincoln, Neb., and Gene F. Swygard of Glendale, Calif.; and a great-niece and great-nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and two brothers.

There will be no visitation.

The graveside committal service for Mrs. Sebastian will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Kossuth Cemetery in Mediapolis, with the Rev. Shirley Bliven officiating.

Lunning Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
