Laura Wiele

Laura Elizabeth Wiele, 94, of Burlington, died Sunday, February 27, 2005, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Born January 6, 1911, in Kahoka, Missouri, she was the daughter of Ira Elkanah and Kathryn Kerns Scott. On August 25, 1935, she married Lester Samuel Wiele in Ft. Madison. He died January 20, 1973.

Mrs. Wiele was a homemaker.

She was a member of Book Club Alumni, First United Church of Christ, Burlington Public Library for 11 years and taught Sunday school for many years.

Survivors include one son, Jonathan Kearns Cooper-Wiele of Boston; one daughter, Mary Kathryn Swan of Tipton; two granddaughters; and one great-grandson.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters and one son.

There will be no family visitation. Friends may call after 8 a.m. Wednesday at Prugh's Chapel.

The funeral for Mrs. Wiele will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at First United Church of Christ, with Pastor JudyAnn Morse officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for the Burlington Public Library and First United Church of Christ.
