Kara Marie Patejak, 17, of West Burlington, died Saturday, March 1, 2008, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Born Nov. 10, 1990, in Youngstown, Ohio, she was the daughter of Marek and Deborah Lynn Schwartz Patejak.

Ms. Patejak was a student at West Burlington Arnold High School. She worked at FunCity and participated in the Big Games. She was a Girl Scout, played the piano and collected stuffed Tigger animals. She played softball, volleyball and soccer. She was outgoing, enjoyed school and was in Falcon Follies on Friday night. She was affiliated with the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship.

Survivors include her parents of West Burlington; one brother, Frank Patejak of West Burlington; one sister, Rachel Patejak of West Burlington; paternal grandmother, Margaret Patejak of Virginian Beach, Va.; maternal grandparents, Robert and Elizabeth Schwartz of Beaver, Pa.; maternal great-grandmothers, Dorothy Schwartz of Beaver Falls, Pa., and Jean White of Chippewa, Pa.; four uncles; two aunts; and many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather and one cousin.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Prugh's Chapel in Burlington where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The funeral for Ms. Patejak will be at 6 p.m. Thursday in West Burlington Arnold High School Gymnasium with the Rev. Roger Mohr officiating. Burial will be at a later date.

A memorial has been established.
