Josephine L. "Jo" Beeding, 89, of Burlington died at 2:25 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2008, at Great River Hospice House in West Bur-lington.

Born April 9, 1918, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Raymond and Elva Gertrude DeSpain Schauenberg. On June 22, 1938, she married Jack T. Beeding in Burlington. He died Nov. 27, 1968.

Mrs. Beeding worked at Schramm's, Evan's Jewelry and Helen's Fashion. She was a 1936 graduate of Burlington High School. She was a lifetime member of Bethany Lutheran Church and a member of the church's Miriam Circle and Senior Saints. She was a 50-year member of Burlington Chapter 545 Order of the Eastern Star, where she was worthy matron in 1958, and a 50-plus-year member of the White Shrine of Jerusalem 11. She was a member of Great River Medical Center Auxiliary. She was a member and past president of both the Burlington Business and Professional Women's Club and the Sheldon Circle 2 King's Daughters. She was past president of numerous organizations, including the Elks Auxiliary, Hawkeye Links, Grand Representatives Club Order of Eastern Star, Past Matrons and Past Patrons Club, Corse School PTA and Central Council PTA. She was past state president of Iowa State Police Association Auxiliary and past president and charter member of Burlington Police Auxiliary. She enjoyed watching "Jeopardy" and doing crossword puzzles.

Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Davis of Burlington; one son, Tom Beeding of Burlington; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.

Visitation will be 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home. Visitation with family will be noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Bethany Lutheran Church.

The funeral for Mrs. Beeding will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Bethany Lutheran Church with the Rev. Carl J. Engstrom officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for Bethany Lutheran Church and Great River Hospice.
