Benham Adams
Benham Franklin Adams, 89, of Vinton, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008, at Lutheran Home for the Aged Association-East in Vinton.

Born Jan. 31, 1918, in Bruneau Valley, Owyhee County, Idaho, he was the son of Ida and George Adams. In 1937, he married Clarice V. Gardner of Bonaparte. They later divorced.

Mr. Adams worked at Iowa Army Ammunition Plant. He also worked at Murray Iron Works and spent 33 years with J.I. Case. He served in the Navy and was a member of American Legion George G. Luckey Post 57 in Vinton and United Auto Workers Local 807 in Burlington. He enjoyed fishing and traveling.

Survivors include two sons, Robert "Bob" F. Adams of Burlington and Mike Adams of Vinton; one stepdaughter, Linda Simanek of Walker; two grandchildren; step grandchildren; and step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his three wives, his parents, four sisters, one brother, one stepdaughter and one son.

Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Monday at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids.

The memorial service for Mr. Adams will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Jim Blair officiating. The body will be cremated. Burial with military rites will be in Bonaparte Cemetery in Bonaparte, at a later date.

Memorials have been established for Lutheran Home for the Aged Association-East, Leaping Rescues and Amenity Hospice, all in Vinton.
