Darlene Mehaffy
Darlene Mehaffy, 76, of Mount Pleasant, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2007, at the Pleasant Manor Care Center in Mount Pleasant.

Born on Aug. 5, 1931, in Trenton, she was the daughter of Henry and Gladys Smith Alter. On July 4, 1952, she married Rodney Mehaffy in Reno, Nev.

Mrs. Mehaffy graduated from Mount Pleasant High School. She worked for the Iowa Telephone Co. and for the Berkley Telephone Office in Berkley, Calif. She worked for Midwest Biscuit Co. and was co-owner, manager and dispatcher for Mehaffy Moving and Storage. She worked for Metromail in Mount Pleasant for 29 years, retiring in 1996.

She was the organizer and leader for the Henry County 4-H group designed especially for mentally retarded children. She was a member of the Henry County Association for Retarded Citizens and served as the group's treasurer. She enjoyed motorcycle riding and outdoor sports.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Vicky Mehaffy of Burlington and Tammy Mulford of Mount Pleasant; one sister, Beverly Mullin of Mount Pleasant; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter and one brother.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant. The body has been cremated. A private burial will be at a later date.

Memorials have been established for Hope Haven, American Cancer Society and Parkinson's Foundation.
