Ruth Luth
Ruth A. Luth, 86, of Wapello Nursing and Care Center in Wapello, formerly of Mediapolis, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, at the care center.
Born Feb. 24, 1915, near Danville, she was the daughter of Gail H. and Rosa Siefken Allen. She married Oscar Luth. He died in 1943.
Mrs. Luth was a graduate of New London High School. She lived on the family farm for many years and worked as a cook at Mediapolis High School for several years. She was a member of Mediapolis United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, a 50-year member of Nellie Walker King's Daughters Circle and served as secretary for Prairie Grove Cemetery Association for many years. She was a longtime 4-H leader and an avid fan of the Mediapolis girls basketball team when her health permitted.
Survivors include two daughters, Loretta Cover of Wapello and Karen Young of Big Sky, Mont.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.
Visitation will begin at noon today at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
The funeral for Mrs. Luth will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. John Gaulke officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established.
