James Ita
James Conrad Ita, 88, of Burlington, died at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007, at Burlington Care Center.

Born March 21, 1919, in Burlington, he was the son of Conrad A. and Mary Gertrude Collier. On Nov. 27, 1947, he married Virginia C. Gorrel.

Mr. Ita worked in maintenance at J.I. Case. He was in the Army during World War II, serving as a technical sergeant; he received the Purple Heart with an oak leaf cluster and Bronze Star. He was a member of the American Legion and UAW Local 807. He loved animals.

Survivors include his wife of Burlington; two sons, Jerry Ita of Wever and Douglas Ita of Burlington; one daughter, Linda Avery of Burlington; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at Prugh's Chapel.

The funeral for Mr. Ita will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Prugh's Chapel, with the Rev. Randy Gearhart officiating. Burial will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.

A memorial has been established for Great River Medical Center Hospice and Des Moines County Humane Society.
