Ruth Porter
Ruth Adell Porter, 92, of Burlington and formerly of Danville, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2007, at Blair House Nursing and Rehab in Burlington.

Born July 4, 1915, in Bachelor, Mo., she was the daughter of Hiram and Ada Roberts Cary. On Dec. 16, 1933, she married James Pike Porter in Canton, Mo. He died on Oct. 18, 1980.

Mrs. Porter was a homemaker. She, her husband and brother owned and operated the R&M Café in Mediapolis for years. She later retired as head cook at Danville Community Schools. She was a member of Danville United Methodist Church. Mrs. Porter enjoyed good food, crocheting and bingo.

Survivors include one son, Bill Porter of Danville; one nephew, Jim M. Cary of Danville; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four great-great- grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, one great-granddaughter, four brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday in Lunning Chapel. The funeral for Mrs. Porter will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Kossuth Cemetery in rural Mediapolis, with the Rev. Richard Latta officiating.

A memorial has been established.
