Henry Hanks, Kinsman of Lincoln, Dies

Henry C. Hanks, 80 year old carpenter and distant kinsman of Abraham Lincoln, died at his home, at 2101 South Thirteenth street at 1:20 p.m., Feb. 7.

Hanks was the son of Charles A. and Eliza Jane Carpenter Hanks, and was born at Pleasant Grove on Dec. 7, 1874. He was married to married to Mary Parks at New London, on Feb. 27, 1900. She died Mar. 8, 1947, in 1953 he was married to Virla May McKinney at Mount Pleasant. She survives, as do a son, Charles Hanks, 2135 South Thirteenth street, and two grandsons.

Four sisters died previously.

Hanks was a 50-year member of Lodge No. 28, AF & AM, New London, and was also a member of Charity Lodge No. 56, also of New London, and the Carpenter's Union. He had lived in Burlington for the past 3 years.

Last rites will be held at the Elliot Chapel in New London at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. G.L. Hufstader, pastor of Harrison Avenue Methodist church, will officiate, and burial will be in Burge cemetery.

The Masonic lodge will administrate the funeral ritual.
