Lawrence Reif
Lawrence "Larry" Reif, 58, of Sperry died Friday, Aug. 31, 2007, at his home.

Born Dec. 13, 1948, in Burlington, he was the son of Clifford George Sr. and Mary Magdaline Gehringer Reif. On June 12, 1976, he married Michelle Moore at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dodgeville.

Mr. Reif was a farmer and worked for Reif Oil Co. He was a 1967 graduate of Mediapolis High School and attended Burlington Junior College and the University of Iowa. In 1969, he joined the Naval Reserves, serving active duty until 1971. He was stationed on the USS Higbee during the Vietnam Conflict. He earned many medals for his service and was honorably discharged in 1975.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dodgeville, where he served on the finance committee, as parish council president and as cemetery board secretary. He also served on the board of directors at Sperry Union Store and Elevator and was secretary of Franklin Township. He was member and treasurer of Diamond Lodge No. 326 IOOF in Sperry and American Legion Post No. 243 in Mediapolis.

Survivors include two sons, James Reif of Mediapolis and Andrew Reif of Burlington; two daughters, Maria Reif and Alison Reif, both of Sperry; two brothers, Clifford Reif Jr. of Burlington and Kenneth Reif of Burlington; three sisters, Carolyn Reif of Dubuque, Delores McCoy of Iowa City and Mary Christine Loops of North Liberty; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

A Christian Wake will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Visitation with family will follow until 5 p.m. and also from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Reif will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Revs. David Steinle and Patrick Hilgendorf officiating. Burial with full military rites will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.

A memorial has been established.
