Kenneth Rankin

Kenneth E. Rankin, 84, of Phoenix, formerly of Biggsville and Oquawka, Ill., died at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at St. Joseph Hospital in Phoenix.

Born Aug. 12, 1920, in Burlington, he was the son of Edgar S. and Veda Alice Perdue Rankin. On Oct. 3, 1942, he married Mablejane Noble in St. Louis. She died Aug. 9, 2002. He then married Abigail Rankin.

Mr. Rankin was a farmer in Warren and Henderson counties since 1948, when he purchased a farm near Rozetta, Ill., and more ground in 1965. He retired in 1979.

He was raised in Biggsville and attended Rankin Rural School, graduating from Biggsville High School. He moved to Arizona in 1984. He enjoyed 4-H and was a past superintendent of the Henderson County Dairy Association.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Sharilyn S. Stevenson of Tucson, Ariz.; one son, Gary L. Rankin of Tucson; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Doris Smith of Kirkwood, Ill., and Annabelle White of Carman, Ill.

Besides his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the time of service Thursday at Turnbull Funeral Home in Biggsville.

The funeral for Mr. Rankin will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Turnbull Funeral Home, with the Rev. Carol Stufflebeam officiating. Burial will be in Biggsville Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for the Alzheimer's Association and hospices.
