Virgil W. Hileman

Virgil W. Hileman, 74, of 204 N. Harrison St., Mount Pleasant, died at 2:39 p.m. Saturday, May 30, at the University of Iowa Hospitals.

Born Dec. 22, 1912, at Rome, Iowa, he was the son of James N. and Ida Despain Hileman. On June 17, 1939, at Mount Pleasant, he married Thelma M. Chandler.

He was a graduate of Wayland High School and attended Iowa Wesleyan College for two years. During World War II, he served in the European Theater and during the Korean War he served on the Henry County Draft Board.

Mt. Hileman owned and operated the Hileman Sinclair Service, Mount Pleasant, for 24 years. He founded and was president of Iris Realty, Mount Pleasant, for 18 years, until retiring.

He was past commander and member of the Bob Tribby American Legion Post 58, member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2561, Mount Pleasant, past master and 50-year mason in the Mount Pleasant Masonic Lodge No. 8 AF&AM, member of Henry County York Rite Masons, past patron in the Bethlehem Chapter No. 38 of Order of Eastern Star and the KAABA Shrine, Davenport. He was the past president and member of the Mount Pleasant Rotary Club, past president of the board of directors of Southeast Iowa Are College, Burlington, and served as president of the Southeast Iowa Board of Realtors.

Mr. Hileman was one of four local citizens instrumental in forming the dialysis unit of Henry County Health Center.

Surviving are his wife; one son, John C. Hileman, Mount Pleasant; one daughter, Mrs. Mary(Lane) Fitzgerald, Maryville, Tenn; two brothers, Richard G. Hileman, Des Moines, and LeDreu Hileman, Escondido, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Velma(Rex) McCleary, Mount Pleasant; two step-sisters, Mrs. Joyce(Joe) Garretson, Salem, and Mrs. Myrlljean(Donald) Hoffman, Glen Ellyn, Ill.; and three grandchildren.

Freinds may call as they desire at Weir Funeral Home, Mount Pleasant.

Services for Mr. Hileman will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church, Mount Pleasant, with Rev. George White and Rev. Ronald Kramer officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for the First United Methodist Church or the dialysis unit of the Henry County Health Center. Contributions many be left at the Weir Funeral Home.
