Ruby M. McGohan, 99, of Sunnybrook Assisted Living, Ashford Park, formerly of rural Mount Pleasant, died Friday, Aug.10, 2007, at Sunnybrook.

Born Nov. 26, 1907, on a family farm north of Mount Union, she was the daughter of Elmer and Mina Beard Cornick. On Oct. 24, 1931, she married Cecil Henry McGohan in Monmouth, Ill. He died Jan. 22, 1996.

Mrs. McGohan was a housewife and a gifted seamstress who operated a sewing business from her farm home east of Mount Pleasant. She attended school in Mount Union where she was a member of the State Basketball Championship team. She graduated from Mount Union in 1925.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mount Pleasant and the United Methodist Women. For many years, she was a member of the former Beulah Methodist Church east of Mount Pleasant. She sang in the Beulah church choir and also sang duets with her husband for many church functions, primarily funerals. She enjoyed attending the neighbor "club" with the other farm wives. In Arizona she became a very adept pool player, playing up until last year. She also had been active playing shuffleboard and sand golf at their winter home. She enjoyed watching sports on television.

Survivors include two sons, Donal James McGohan and Richard David McGohan; two daughters, Carole Janice Henrichsen of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Sue King of Mount Pleasant; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, one daughter-in-law, one son-in-law and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Monday at Weir and Kimzey Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. McGohan will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church in Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Pat Youngquist officiating. Burial will be in Jaggar Cemetery in Danville.

A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice or First United Methodist Church.
