William Walker
William Brice Walker, 82, of Brighton, died at 3:40 a.m. Friday, June 22, 2007, at Washington County Hospital.

Born March 2, 1925, in Memphis, Mo., he was the son of Morris A. and Roxibelle Kaser Walker Sr. On Oct. 26, 1946, he married Ruby F. Ingersoll in Kahoka, Mo. She died in January of 1986.

He farmed in the Mexico, Mo. and Ainsworth/Washington area until he moved to Middletown. Mr. Walker worked for the Embalming Burial Case Co. and Murray Iron Works, both in Burlington, until he retired in 1982. He attended country school in the Memphis area and graduated from Memphis High School in 1943. He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II with the Navy. He moved to Brighton in 1991 and to the Washington Care Center in 2006. He was a member of Middletown Presbyterian Church and a 60-year member of Wallace W. Gillespie Memorial Post No. 4958 of Memphis. He was active in the Southeastern Iowa Trail Riders Association.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Wheeler of Brighton and Bonnie Criswell of Piketon, Ohio; one son, William Walker of Brighton; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Morris Walker Jr. and Joe Tom Walker, both of Memphis; three sisters, Shirlie Biggs of Platte City, Mo., Mary Foley of Springfield, Mo., and Alice White of Troy.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Friday at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton with the family present from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

The graveside service for Mr. Walker will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Middletown Cemetery with the Rev. Kitch Shatzer officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.

A memorial has been established for the American Cancer Society.
