Gladys Callaway

Gladys June Callaway, 88, of Burlington Care Center, formerly of Burlington and Hillsboro, died at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born June 12, 1914, in Pleasant Grove, she was the daughter of James Preston and Birdie Marie Jacoba Stucker. On Oct. 21, 1933, she married William Joseph Callaway in Danville.

Mrs. Callaway was a homemaker.

She was a 1932 graduate of Danville High School. She was a member of Shinar Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Pleasant Grove and the Hillsboro Alpha Club. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed cooking.

Survivors include two daughters, Juawona Weiss of Burlington and O'Kemm Dixon of Carman, Ill.; two sons, Michael Callaway of Anchorage, Alaska, and Patrick Callaway of Stockport; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Grace Mathews of Danville and Hazel Lord and Joy White, both of Burlington.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by parents, a baby daughter, two brothers and one sister.

Visitation will begin after 8 a.m. Tuesday at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Callaway will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Mike Rose officiating. Burial will be in Shinar Cumberland Cemetery of Pleasant Grove, rural New London.

A memorial has been established for Shinar Cumberland Cemetery of Pleasant Grove.
