Royce Lee Pohlpeter, 67, of Fort Madison, died Saturday, June 2, 2007, at the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City.

Born July 22, 1939, in Fort Madison, he was the son of Raymond J. and Myrtle A. Miller Pohlpeter. On July 3, 1965, he married Nellie Rose Thompson in Fort Madison.

Mr. Pohlpeter was a quality assurance foreman for Fruehauf, retiring after 34 years of service. He served in the Air Force during the Vietnam era. He was a member of SS. Mary and Joseph Catholic Church in Fort Madison. He was an avid sports fan.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Rose Marie Pohlpeter of Fort Madison and Renee Diane Pohlpeter of Dallas City, Ill.; five sisters, Mary Lou Farlie of Swisher, and Sylvia Pohlpeter, Carmen Pohlpeter, Peggy Pohlpeter and Connie Bunker, all of Fort Madison; four brothers, Ray Pohlpeter of Burlington, Rolland Pohlpeter of Des Moines, Richard Pohlpeter of Fort Madison, and Larry Pohlpeter of El Reno, Okla.; nieces; nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents, two sisters and one brother.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at King-Lynk Funeral Home and Crematory in Fort Madison, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A wake service will be at 7:30 p.m.

The funeral service for Mr. Pohlpeter will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at SS. Mary and Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. Thomas Parlette officiating. Burial with military rites by Fort Madison Veterans Honor Guard will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Fort Madison.

A memorial has been established for Iowa Donor Network.
