Daniel Carson

Daniel "Dan" R. Carson, 57, of Burlington died at 8:10 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2007, at his home.

Born June 12, 1949, in Macomb, Ill., he was the son of Robert Nolan and Hazel Irene Grimm Carson. On June 21, 2003, he married Tina Lundeen Smith in Burlington.

He was a State Farm Insurance agent for 29 years. He was recognized as one of the top five State Farm agents in the region of Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota for several years. He was a graduate of Colchester High School, Ill., and attended Gem City Business College in Quincy, Ill. He was active on the Steamboat Days Committee and served as president in the past. He was a founding member and Executive Board Management Committee member of Catfish Bend Casino and held the same positions for Riverside Casino and Golf Resort. He was on the Board of Directors for the Ryan Bowen Family Foundation. He was of the Christian faith. He was past president and long-time member of the Burlington Golf Club. He gave to various charitable causes.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Erin Carson of Macomb; four grandchildren; his mother of Burlington; three sisters, Deborah Shelor of Rock Island, Ill., Rebecca Egerton of Burlington, and Polly Heitmeier of West Burlington; three brothers, Ronald Carson of Coralville, Randall Carson of Greensboro, N.C. and Scott Carson of Wichita, Kan.; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Lunning Chapel with family present to receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Carson will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Messiah Lutheran Church with the Rev. Don Hoornstra officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established.
