Martha Smith

Martha E. Winslow Smith, 85, of the Good Samaritan Home, Quincy, Ill., died at 2:45 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 1996, at the Good Samaritan Home.

Born Aug. 11, 1910, in Morning Sun, she was the daughter of John and Mary Eliza Coker Mehaffy Wright. On May 5, 1929, she married Harry Lloyd Winslow. He died March 6, 1961. She then married Everett L. Smith on July 6, 1966. He died Nov. 1982.

Mrs. Smith owned and operated the Quincy Doll Hospital for 40 years, before her retirement in 1966.

She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, the women's guild, the Young at Heart, and a former member of the Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include one son, Paul K. Winslow of Payson, Ill.; one daughter, Marjorie Briggs of Colorado Springs, Colo.; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; step-children; step-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Myrtle Steele of Findlay, Ohio, Mittie Parr of Calif., and Sarah Inez Schulze of Burlington; two brothers, Talmage Mehaffy of Morning Sun and John Mehaffy of Sun City, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitationwill from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday and until the time of services Tuesday at the Hansen - Spear Funeral Home of Quincy, Ill.

Funeral services for Mrs. Smith will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Hansen - Spear Funeral Home with the Rev. Timothy White officiating. Graveside services will be at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in Sharon Reformed Presbyterian Cemetery, Morning Sun, with the Rev. Ron Good officiating.

Memorials have been established for Trinity United Church of Christ, Good Samaritan Home or the Blessing Foundation for Hospice.
