Phyllis Weyl

Phyllis Gugeler Weyl, 92, of Mount Airy, Md., formerly of Fayetteville, Ark., died Wednesday, Jan. 4. 2006, at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Mount Airy.

Born Jan. 29, 1913, in Danville, she was the daughter of Fred and Maggie Wagner. She married Otto Weyl. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Weyl was a teacher for more than 25 years, beginning in a one-room schoolhouse and retiring as a second-grade teacher in Prairie Grove, Ark.

She attended Wheaton College during the depression and was a graduate of the University of Arkansas. She taught Sunday school for many years and was an active member of her community. She was a Farm Bureau member. She took great pride in the family farms in Iowa and Arkansas. She loved the Bible, chocolate, jewelry, fancy hats, high-heels, sewing, gardening and piano music.

Survivors include one son, Herbert Weyl of Lincoln, Ark.; one daughter, Mina Luther of Damascus, M.D.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Opal Page of Holland, Mich., and Ruth Williams of Danville.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, one grandson and two brothers.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday at Elliott Chapel prior to the graveside service, with family meeting friends from 10 a.m. until the time of departure for Jaggar Cemetery.

The graveside service for Mrs. Weyl will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Jaggar Cemetery in Danville, with Pastor Wendell Williams officiating.

A memorial has been established for Montgomery County Youth-For-Christ in Olney, Md.
