Carl Shumaker

Carl J. Shumaker, 75, of Danville, died at 1055 a.m. Friday, March 29, 1996, at Burlington Medical Center.

Born Jan. 14, 1921, near Salem, he was the son of Carl E. and Mary E. Skipton Shumaker. He married Madelyn Eckey on June 5, 1941, in New London.

Mr. Shumaker was a 1939 graduate of New London High School and a World War II Navy veteran. He was a grain and dairy farmer.

He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 48, Eagles Lodge Aerie No. 150 and Farm Bureau. He was also a Soil Conservation commissioner.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Carolyn Mapel of Danville; one son, Steve Shumaker of Danville; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Delores Watson of Burlington and Dorothy Hale of Keokuk; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter.

Visitation will begin at noon Sunday in Elliott Chapel, New London, where the family will receive friends after 630 p.m. Masonic services until 830 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Shumaker will be 10 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church in Danville, with the Revs. Don Linne and Bob Dodds officiating. Burial will be in Jaggar Cemetery, Danville.

A memorial has been established to Danville Rescue Squad.
