Leslie GerlingLeslie Bernhart Gerling, 87, of Kingston died at 6:46 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, 2006, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born June 18, 1919, in Burlington, he was the son of William F. and Nora M. Bernhart Gerling. On May 7, 1949, he married Virginia Luttenegger. She died Nov. 9, 1996.
Mr. Gerling was a road grader operator for Des Moines County for 19 1/2 years before his retirement.
He was a member of Kingston United Methodist Church. He enjoyed the outdoors and helping others. He took great pride in the maintenance and care of his automobiles.
Survivors include one sister, Opal Schaffer of Mediapolis; nieces; and nephews.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, two sisters and three brothers.
No formal visitation is planned.
The graveside ash committal service for Mr. Gerling will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Kossuth Cemetery, with the Rev. Beth Briggs officiating.
A memorial has been established.
Prugh Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
