Eldon Pugh dies in action

Private Eldon Prugh, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Norval F. Prugh, 1024 N. 4th St., (Burlington) was killed in action March 1 in Germany, according to a war Department message received by his parents Thursday.

He served as a radio operator with a tank battalion, and went into Germany with his outfit by way of Belgium. He had been in service since the summer of 1944, overseas since last December 23.

Perl, born here or October 4, 1922, was a graduate from Burlington high school and had one year of junior college here. He was employed at the Iowa ordnance plant during the period of construction, and later was in the engineering department of the J.I. Case company when that firm was turning out plane parts.

It was well known in riding circles, and he raised and trained horses on a small acreage on Madison Avenue, south of Burlington. He was former secretary of the Des Moines County riding club.

He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church.

Surviving are his parents; his grandfather, B.A. Prugh; two sisters, Mrs. Robert Ahnold, whose husband is with the Army in Germany, and Sherry Prugh, both at home; one brother, Burton Prugh, of Burlington; two nephews and one niece.
