Coyne killed on Iwo Jima

Corporal John J. Coyne, U.S.M.C., son of Burlington residents and veteran of Guadalcanal, was killed in action March 21 in the battle for Iwo Jima. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Coyne, 3207 Valley St, received the notification from the government.

The Marine, 21, had lived here, but a short while. Before joining the Marines on January 10, 1942. He was graduated from the Morehead high school. Klein shipped out of the states for the second time last June, and his parents last heard from him in a letter dated January 21.
