January 27, 1916, Cascade Pioneer

The death of Mrs. Conrad Schaffer of Sand Spring, occurred at the family home Sunday, Jan. 16th. The funeral services and burial took place at Worthington Tuesday at 10 a.m.

Her illness was of only a few days duration and death was due to old age. Mr. and Mrs. Schaffer lived near Worthington for years prior to their moving to Sand Spring a few years ago, where they have since made their home. Mrs. Schaffer was a woman of kindly disposition who made hosts of friends who held her in high esteem; a loving wife and devoted mother and died a true follower of the Catholic church, of which she was a life long member. The deceased was born in Essex, Westvelia, Germany, in 1846, where she was educated and grew to womanhood. In 1870 she was married to Conrad Schaffer and a few years later they immigrated to this country. Six children were born to their union, two of whom have preceded their mother to the great beyond. The husband, Mr. Conrad Schaffer and the four surviving children, Bernard of Sand Spring, Mary, now Mrs. John Lewis of Hopkinton, Gertrude, now Mrs. Chas. Oeschger of Cascade, and William, who resides in Cascade township, are left to mourn the loss of an affectionate wife and fond, loving mother. The funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 10:00, at St. Paul's Catholic church. Interment was made in the family lot at St. Paul's cemetery. The pallbearers were the Messrs John Schlick, John Heims, John Quint, James Tobin, Sam D. Bertling and John Freiden.
