He was born March 1, 1963 in Manchester, Iowa. He moved to Alaska with his parents in 1971. He graduated from Palmer High School in 1981, afterward attending Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Randy got his pilot's license when he was 16 years old. He was working for Woods Air Service in Palmer as a mechanic and pilot at the time of his death.
