Martin was born on May 12, 1933, in Delaware County, Iowa, the son of Henry and Theresa (LeClere) Winch. He was a 1950 graduate of Buck Creek High School and went on to serve honorably in the United States Army. On Nov. 10, 1957, Martin was united in marriage to Martha Marie Oltmanns at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church in Monticello, Iowa. For 39 years, Martin worked for Quaker Oats until his retirement. Together with his wife, they co-owned Marty & Marty Toys for over 20 years. Martin and Martha enjoyed going to the casino together, loved camping, and were members of the Hawkeye Champs Motorhome Club. Martin was also a member of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection and the Marion American Legion Post 298. He loved tinkering, taking things apart in the garage, and was a natural "do-it-yourself" guy. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Martin is survived and lovingly remembered by his four children, April (David) Lubbock of Shellsburg, Iowa, Bruce (Angie) Winch of Orem, Utah, Cathy Winch (Dean Schmidt) of Marion, and Randy (Jody) Winch of Marion; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Novella Cunningham of Marion and Mary (Gary) Goodlove of Covington, Iowa; and one brother, Merle Winch of Hopkinton, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Martha of 53 years; one brother, Lyle (Elizabeth) Winch; one sister, Imogene (Norman) Snell; one brother-in-law, James Cunningham; and one sister-in-law, Lois Winch.

Memorials in Martin's memory will be directed to either The Views of Marion or St. Croix Hospice.
