David Jerome Hogan, 77, of Uvalde, Texas, passed away very peacefully May 1, 2021 at Amistad Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Uvalde after a long and hard fought battle. There will be a memorial at a later date in Iowa.

David was born to John and Virginia (Power) Hogan, July 23, 1943, in Manchester, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Judy Kennedy on October 26, 1963. Years later the couple divorced. On February 14, 1989 David was united in marriage to Laura Crockett. Laura passed away in 2003. He married Clara Robinson on January 22, 2018.

David attended St. Mary’s Catholic School, Manchester, Iowa through 8th grade. He graduated from West Delaware High School, Manchester, Iowa in 1962. He grew up on the family farm and often told the story of how he sheared sheep to buy his first car. He was a pretty good wrestler during his high school years. As an adult, he worked many years for a textile company until the business closed. He lived in several states throughout the Midwest during this time. He ended his working years living in Garden City, Michigan as a bus driver for Livonia Public Schools. He was known for being the first person to arrive and was in charge of the coffee, a job he took very seriously. Wherever it was, he worked hard, took his work seriously and always got the job done. His positive attitude was contagious, and he brightened everyone’s day.

After retiring he made his home in Uvalde, Texas where several of his brothers and sisters have retirement homes. He would sit on the deck for hours and watch everything that was going on around him, and visit with whoever was out and about. Just about everyone knew David. David also took many walks through the park. He and Clara were very social and spent their time gathering with friends and family, going to local events, and of course going to dances whenever they could.

He is survived by his wife, Clara, daughter, Julie (Jason) Wutzke, Hiawatha, Iowa, two sons, Brad Hogan, Wheeling, Illinois, Mathew Hogan, Manchester, Tennessee, stepson Jason Torres, Lajitas, Texas; four grandchildren Nathan Spencer, Patrick (Ericka) Hogan, Brenda (Dion) Dumayas, and Dalton Hogan; one great grandchild, Elliott Hogan; two brothers, John (Barbara) Uvalde, Texas, Stephen (Casey) Cedar Rapids, Iowa; five sisters, Mary Hogan and Nancy Foss, Hopkins, Minnesota, Eunice (Mike) Hasselbring Jeffersonville, Indiana, Janice (Jim) Gude Sun City West, Arizona, and Mona (Doug) Rans, Manchester, Iowa. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a twin brother at childbirth, sister-in-law Kathy Hogan, brother-in-law Steve Foss.

David loved to play cards, especially Euchre. He was a shrewd card player, and very good. He will be greatly missed, especially by his family, and by the many friends he had made over the years.
