Obituary
Judith “Judy” Ann Briggs, 78, of Marion, Iowa, was born to Erwin and Bessie (Luloff) Briggs on January 5, 1943, in Iowa City, Iowa. With her two sisters by her side, Judy passed away on Thursday, April 22, 2021, at the Hiawatha Care Center.

Judy graduated in the class of 1961 at Manchester High School. She obtained an Associates Degree in Liberal Arts at Kirkwood College in 1985. Judy earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree, majoring in English, at Coe College and graduated cum laude in 1995. In 1992 Judy was elected to the National Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. She received high marks, except for math. The family joke was if she ran out of fingers and toes to count on, she couldn’t add or subtract.

Judy was saved and baptized at the First Baptist Church in Manchester. Later in her life she attended services at Oakland Church of the Nazarene in Cedar Rapids.

After Judy graduated from high school, she went to work as a provisioning analyst at Collins Radio in 1962. In 1999 Judy’s mother needed her and she retired at that time.

For a few years Judy was in a bowling league. She was an avid reader. Judy enjoyed the many cats and dogs that she and her family had over the years. Judy liked her daily mini can of Coca Cola, a small bag of Cheetos, and an occasional fudge nutty bar. Her tv fare was opera, cooking shows, Rachel Rae, Jeopardy, lots of programs on IPTV, football, figure skating, and horse racing.

Her cat Michaela was very dear to her and they will rest together along with several other departed critter members of the family.

Survivors include her two sisters, Charlotte Briggs and Della Gilbert both of Marion; two nieces, Leah Portz of Marion and Leanne (Doug) Bush of Manchester; and her furry felines Suzanna and Sushi.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Elizabeth “Beth”; and dear friends, Karen Ness and Valerie Hirchfield.

Judy’s family would like to thank Judy’s caregivers for the caring and compassionate care she received while residing at the Hiawatha Care Center. We also want to thank the staff at the Hall Perrine Cancer Center and are thankful she had doctors Wook Lee and Ann Stroh in charge of her care.

Because of COVID-19, masks are recommended at the cemetery.
