Suicide in Delaware Co.
Manchester Press:—The particulars of a suicide, at once shocking and sad in the extreme, reached this city late Sunday afternoon. Miss Carrie Hilton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hilton, living in Coffin's Grove township, took her own life by shooting herself through the heart. Miss Hilton left the house at two o’clock Sunday afternoon, going to an outbuilding, and commiting the deed with 38-calibre revolver. The members of the household noted her prolonged absence, and becoming alarmed began a search for her, finding her lifeless body as stated. Further investigation showed that the act had been premeditated and carefully planned. Two letters had been written, one addressed to the father and mother and one to her brother's wife living at Ogden, Utah, clearly stating her intentions, but giving no reasons for the rash act. Those who have been nearest in her affections, are at a loss to understand what prompted her to take her life, speaking of and remembering her as a lovable and dutiful girl, always bright and cheery in disposition, and never giving evidence of melancholy in her every day life.Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows she was born in 1874 and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery.
