Ila Mae Marquardt, 90, of Masonville, Iowa, passed away on Friday, August 7, 2020, at the New Aldaya Lifescapes in Cedar Falls. She was born on May 19, 1930, in Buchanan County, the daughter of Dale Judson and Mabel (McKay) Child. She attended grade school in Masonville and graduated from Manchester High and was the third generation to attend Upper Iowa University in Fayette. Ila earned a teaching certificate and taught school in Prairie Township, Delaware County.
Ila farmed on the Child Farm near Masonville, which had been in the Child family for 150 years. Ila was the fifth generation to live on the farm. Ila worked for and served as director of Operation New View Community Action Agency for 26 years. She was honored several times for her work, dedication and many volunteer hours on boards and organizations, including Area on Aging and Friends and Big Brothers/Big Sister Boards (20 years) and JACS. Ila was a 4-H leader for 17 years, and received the Governor’s award for her dedication to the Delaware County Senior Citizens Jamboree.
She was a member of the Masonville and Manchester Methodist Church. She taught summer Bible School and served as chair of the UMW for several years. She loved gardening, quilting, sewing, crafts, flower arranging, cooking and baking. Her family was the most important thing in her life. She cared for her parents in their old age and she loved caring for her grandchildren. Ila enjoyed their weekend, holiday and summer time visits. She was very proud of her family and their accomplishments.
Ila is survived by her six children, De (Jeff) Romine of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Christina Child of Evansdale, Randy Marquardt of Manchester, Susan (Conrad) Fischer of Thorton, Colorado, Pamela (Kurt) Hartke of Marion; and Linda (Gary) Hilby of Manchester; 16 grandchildren, Jason, Tatianna, Maxwell and Dale Romine; Jerad Petrick, Lizabeth Kappel; William and Christopher Baber; Aaron and Johanna Hartke; Jessica, Georgie, Lori, Alyssa, Mitchell and Nicholas Hilby; and two great-grandchildren.
Ila was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorials may be designated to: Alzheimer's Association and Delaware County Senior Services
Because of COVID-19, masks are strongly recommended at the funeral home and required at the church.
