John Miller 1826-1906

John Miller was born March 17, 1826 near Blairsville, Indiana county, Penn. He with his wife and two children came to Delaware county in 1856 where he resided until 1878. Then with his family moved to Osborne county, Kansas, remaining there until 1881, when they returned to Delaware county, Iowa, and [in] 1882 moved to Strawberry Point where he lived until the death of his wife Jan. 23, 1906.

His death occured at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lucy Barnes, near Maynard, Iowa, August 6, 1906, at the age 80 years, 4 months, and 19 days. By hard work and service in the civil war his health was broken down, causing him to suffer a great deal during the last years of his life.

He was an earnest Christian man and a member of the United Brethern or M.E. church in early life.

He leaves to mourn his death six sons and three daughters, B.W Miller and Curtis Miller of Delhi; P.W. Miller of Columbus, Neb.; I.P. Miller of Dresden, Kan.; Dr. L.A. Miller of Waucoma, Ia.; James F. Miller, of Oroville, Cal.; Mrs. Anna Barker, Mrs. Lucy Barnes and Mrs. Mina Bassett, of this vicinity.

Followed by four sons and their wives and two daughters and their husbands the burial was made in the family lot of the Bay Church cemetery, Delaware county, Aug. 8, 1906, the pastor of the M.E. church of that place officiating.

Notes:
Although not mentioned in his obit, John was first married to Angeline. They were enumerated on the 1856 Iowa State census in Milo, Delaware co. IA. Angeline died age 29y in 1863 and is buried in the Bay Church cemetery:

His 2nd marriage was to Mary J., who died 10/09/1881 and is also buried in the Bay Church cemetery. He & Mary are enumerated in Milo, Delaware co. IA on the 1870 U.S. census and in Osborne, KS on the 1880 U.S. census.

John's 3rd wife (mentioned in this obit) died 1/23/1906, was Elizabeth 'Eliza' Jane nee Cole. They married in Sept. 1882. She is buried in the Strawberry Point cemetery.

He served with the 3rd Iowa Light Artillery, Civil War
