Editor Barre Dead
It is with deep regret that we record the death of C. S. Barre, editor of the Dyersville News Letter, who died at Colfax Springs Tuesday morning. Mr. Barre was born at Whitestone, New York, where his early life was spent and where he received his education. In early manhood he came west and held cases on the principal Chicago Dailies, and especially the Times. Some years ago he came to Iowa and started the Earlville Phoenix. This plant was destroyed by fire, and Mr. Barre removed to Dyersville and established the News Letter. He married Miss Helen Richmond, of Earlville, and they were blessed with two children. He has a brother now living at Whitestone, N. Y., and a sister, Mrs. D. Perry, of Norwich, in the same state. The remains were brought to Earlville for interment. He has been ill for a great many months, and about six weeks ago went to Colfax to recuperate, but the germ of disease was insatiate and resisted the efforts of medical skill and curative waters of that health resort.
The dead editor was large-souled, generous hearted, and much respected in Dubuque and Delaware Counties, where he was widely known. He was a capable writer and will be missed by the journalistic family.
