Manchester Press..John Henry Knee was born in Martinsburg, Pennsylvania December 5, 1835. He came with his parents to Iowa in April 1855, and located at Colesburg, which place has been his home since. In 1862 he was married to Mary Washburne. To this union five sons were born, three of whom died in infancy. Two survive to mourn the loss of the father - Ira F. Knee of Omaha, Nebraska, and William E. Knee of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
His death occurred Friday afternoon August 24th, very suddenly and unexpectedly. A day or two previous he had gone to the home of his sister, Mrs. A. H. Mallory, who resides about six miles North of town.(Colesburg, Ia.) Shortly before his death he complained of not feeling well, saying that he had a terrible pain in his chest. He lay down upon the couch, and expired almost instantly. Heart failure is supposed to have been the cause of his death, and he was known to have a weak heart.
He is survived by his wife, Two sons, Three brothers, and Six sisters.
The funeral services were held at the Mallory home Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. R. L. Brooks. There was a very large attendance. The services at the grave were conducted by Colony Lodge I.O.O.F. of which Mr. Knee had been a member for many years. Interment was made at the Brown Cemetery. A kind husband and father, a good citizen, and aloyal Odd Fellow, and Masonic Lodge member.
