Eric David Brooks, 47, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, February 11, 2020, at his home in Manchester. He was born on January 23, 1973, in Dubuque, the son of Mark and Jan (Hayes) Brooks. Eric was raised in Maquoketa and was a 1991 graduate of Maquoketa High School.
On October 23, 1993, Eric was united in marriage to Tammy Ward at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa. Three children, Devin, Addison, and Mackenzie, were born to this union. Eric was a 1998 graduate of the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy 162nd Basic Class. He worked for the Monticello Police Department from 1997 to 2001. On July 1, 2001, Eric joined the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office. Eric became the Chief Deputy on August 10, 2004.
Eric was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He was a family man who loved coaching and watching his children in their sports events. Eric was a very proud father. He enjoyed grilling and cooking. He liked to golf, swim, and spend time in the hot tub. Eric loved serving and protecting the people of Delaware County. He loved his dog, Kia. Eric loved making people laugh and spending time with his friends. Above all else, Eric loved his family and cherished spending time with them.
Eric is survived by his wife, Tammy Brooks of Manchester; three children, Devin (fiancé Becca Herwig) Brooks of Manchester, Addison Brooks (Devon Kregel) of North Liberty, and Mackenzie Brooks of Manchester; his parents, Mark and Jan Brooks of Watertown, South Dakota; his paternal grandmother, Carolyn Brooks of Maquoketa; one brother, Travis (Stephani) Brooks and their daughter, Liliana, of Harrisburg, South Dakota; his father-in-law, Richard Ward of Maquoketa; two brothers-in-law, Dennis (Kym) Ward of Frazier Park, California, and Roger (Anna) Ward and their son, Michael, of Waddell, Arizona; and one sister-in-law, Sharon (Loren) Ditch and their children, Gabriel and Elizabeth, of Branson, Missouri.
Eric was preceded in death by his father, David J. Richard; his mother-in-law, Linda Ward; his maternal grandparents, Robert and Bonnie Hayes; and his paternal grandfather, William Brooks.
