Mrs. Alice Smith, daughter of Michael and Dorcas Franks was born April 20th, 1863,and passed away at her home here Thursday evening, May 26th, 1921 at the age of 58 years, 1 month and 6 days. Her death came very unexpectedly and was a great shock to her family and friends. She had been a resident her in this vicinity and in town since three years of age. She was twice married in 1866 and in 1896.
She is survived by her daughter, Bertha, two grandchildren, Burton and Vinnie, a sister, Mrs. Mary Livingston, a brother, Jacob Franks, an aged aunt, Mrs. Becker, and uncle, D.J. Kauffman, five nieces and five nephews, all living in Colesburg or vicinity. A very sad feature of the case is that the sister, Mrs. Livingston, is in very poor health and was unable to visit the home or attend the services. Friends extend profound sympathy to her in this sore affliction at a time when she is so unable to bear it. Mrs. Smith was decidedly a lover of home and lived largely within the precincts of her own home. It was there that she was most loved and will be sadly missed. She was a good mother, neighbor and friend, and to all who mourn her passing sympathy is extended.
Rev. W. Minor Lemen had charge of the funeral service which were held from the M.E. church Sunday afternoon. The D. of R. and Royal Neighbors attend in a body and the former had charge of the burial services. There was a large attendance.

Her parents Mr. and Mrs. Michel Franks were pioneer residents of this community and Mrs. Smith had lived her practically all her life. Her death coming so unexpectedly was a great shock to her family, and especially her invalid sister, Mrs. Mary Livingston, who is prostrated by it. Her loss will be keenly felt in the home where she reigned as a good mother. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and the Royal Neighbors. Surviving her are the daughter, Bertha, and two grandchildren, her sister and brother, besides many other more distant relatives. Rev. W. Minor Lemen officiated at the funeral services which were held Sunday afternoon from the M. E. church.
