Samuel Dunlap Vesey was born in Clarion County, Pa. on September 16, 1837, and passed away at the Soldiers’ Home at Marshalltown, on Sunday at 7 a.m., October 19, 1919, at the age of 83 years. Mr. Vesey came to Iowa in 1856 and located in Delaware County. He enlisted in 1862 joining Co. H., 21st Iowa Infantry Volunteers. He was honorably discharged from the service July 15, 1867. He was united in marriage to Miss Olive Hoxie in Butler Co., Iowa. Six children were born to this union. The surviving children are: Mrs. Emma Runkle, Spencer, Iowa; Frank Vesey, Kimball, South Dakota; Freeman Vesey, Every, Iowa; Mrs. Mary Maulson, Delhi, Iowa; and Mrs. J. C. Phillips, Milford, Iowa, four brothers, seventeen grandchildren also survive him. Mr. Vesey had been in the Soldiers’ Home 13 years but made frequent trips to Delhi to visit his daughter, Mrs. Maulson. The funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Delhi on Tuesday morning, October 21, by the pastor, Rev. L. D. Stubbs. The pallbearers were six young soldiers of the World War. Interment in Delhi Cemetery.
