I. C. Brakeman is Killed
Clad Fishel, brakeman on the Illinois Central Railway Company was killed Sunday night while in the discharge of his duties. It appears that Mr. Fishel was head brakeman on the extra freight and was about to work his way to the engine. In climbing over the pile of coal on the tender, it is believed that his head struck the overhead bridge of the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railway crossing at Delaware. The force of the impact crushed his skull, and when the train pulled into Manchester at nine o’clock his lifeless form was lying over the rear of the tender. Mr. Fishel had been in the employ of the Illinois Central for over seven years and was one of the most faithful and dependable trainman on the division.
Mr. Fishel was born in Honey Creek Township, Delaware County, June 21st, 1880. He was a son of the late Squire Fishel, and is a nephew of County Auditor Robert Fishel. He leaves a wife and one son, 14 years of age. Mrs. Fishel and the son arrived Monday afternoon and accompanied the remains to Iowa Falls where funeral services are being held this afternoon. Interment will be made in the cemetery at Iowa Falls. Besides the wife and son, there remains to mourn for him his mother, Mrs. Grace Fishel, of Allison, Iowa; two brothers, Frank Fishel of Allison and John Fishel of California.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Fishel and Mrs. R. W. Fishel, of this city, accompanied the funeral party to Iowa Falls this morning to attend the services this afternoon.
Profound sympathy is felt for the young wife and son in their terrible affliction.
