Mrs. Sylvester Dean
Last Tuesday the remains of Mrs. Sylvester Dean of Mitchell, S. Dak., were brought to this city for interment in the local cemetery. The news came as a sad surprise to the older residents of Manchester who were acquaintances of the Dean family before they moved to Mitchell, South Dakota, seventeen years ago.
Mrs. Dean died at Mitchell last Saturday at the age of 78 from the result of a fall which occurred but a short time before her death. She slipped on the walk in front of her home, and broke her right hip, the shock being more than her advanced age could withstand. Up to the time of the accident, she had been enjoying the best of health. Mrs. Dean was born in Newark, New York, April 12, 1828. In 1843 she came to Cascade, Iowa, and on December 10, 1851, she was married to Mr. Dean. The family removed from Cascade to Manchester, in 1880, going from this place to Dakota in 1889, where Mr. Dean died in 1890. Mrs. Dean is survived by two sons, A. E. and C. G. Dean proprietors of the Daily Republican and Weekly Capital of Mitchell, and one daughter, Mrs. J. E. McCaslin of Portland, Oregon. She was a woman of Christian character, a member of the Methodist church, a faithful wife and devoted mother, possessed of the most admirable attributes of a true woman. The remains were accompanied here by her son, A. E. Dean.
