Joseph M. Mansfield died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. W. Taber, on Prospect Street, on the evening of October 12, 1921, after a confinement of nearly two months. Funeral services were held at the home on Friday afternoon, at 2 o’clock. Rev. J. Frank Moore of the Congregational Church had charge of the services. Interment was made in Oakland Cemetery.
Mr. Mansfield was born in the state of New York, on November 24, 1831. When a child his parents moved to Buchanan, Michigan, where he grew to manhood. While living in Buchanan he was united in marriage to Miss Jane Fitch, and in 1854 the family came to Delaware County, and located on a farm in Ead’s Grove. Mrs. Mansfield died in 1855 and in 1857 he was united in marriage to Ellen Wilder, who passed away in July 1895. Mr. Mansfield is survived by two daughters, Mrs. J. W. Taber of this city and Mrs. D. A. Molter of Freeport, Illinois, together with six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Mr. Mansfield spent the greater part of his life as a stone mason. He was a heard worker, proficient at his trade. He was one of the workmen who erected the Globe Hotel in an early day. He was a man with many genial and likeable qualities which made him friends where he located. During his declining years he was tenderly cared for by his daughter, Mrs. J. W. Taber. The daughters have the sympathy of their friends in their great sorrow.
