MRS HANNAH COLLARD

Mrs. Hannah Collard passed away at her home in this city on Friday morning, October 14th, 1921, after an illness of a year. Some months ago Mrs. Collard submitted to several critical operations, prolonging her life by several months. Funeral services were held at the home Sunday afternoon at 3:30. Rev. J. Frank Moore, pastor of the First Congregational church, had charge of the services. Interment was made in Oakland cemetery.

Hanna Lawman was born in Saarlous, Germany, October 1st, 1848. Her parents came to the United States in a sail boat when she was but two years of age. The family first located near Buffalo, New York, where she grew to young womanhood. On February 9th, 1869, she was united in marriage with Serva Collard, and almost immediately after their marriage they came west and located in Manchester. For many years they resided on farms southwest of Manchester and near Berryville, and came to Manchester to make their permanent home in 1903.

Mrs. Collard is survived by three sons, Victor L. Collard of this city; Geo A. Collard of Reno, Nevada; F. E. Collard of Cedar Rapids ; and one daughter, Miss Mary Collard, a teacher in the public schools of Omaha. Mr. Collard passed away at Rochester, Minnesota, in January, 1911. She is also survived by one brother, Geo. Lawman of North Collins, New York; two sisters, Mrs. Joe Setter of Silver Creek, New York; and Mrs. Kate Moore of Cairo, Michigan.

Mrs. Collard possessed all of the fine Christian graces of a true wife and mother, and her first thought was for the welfare of those near and dear to her. In common with other pioneer settlers Mrs Collard endured the trials and hardships incident to the life of those sturdy pioneers with true courage and fortitude, and did her part well in helping shape the thought and life of the community she called home. She was a mother in every sense of the word. To her children she has left a heritage which money cannot procure, nor can time blot it for the memory of those were attached to her by tender family ties. Mrs. Collard was one of those quiet and unassuming women who found pleasure in ministering in a quiet way to those in her home, and those in need that appealed to her.

Surely for Mrs. Collard there can be no more suffering and pain, and the sons and daughter will ever cherish in their hears the memory of a life so rich in Christian graces. In this sorrow that has come to the sorrowing children, they have the profound sympathy of many friends.
