Keokuk Constitution - "Keokuk, Monday, September 4, 1876 River News. We clip the two following items from the Glove-Democrat of Saturday:
Capt. Silas Haight died at his residence in Earlville, Delaware County, Iowa, on the 29th ult (sic), aged 67 years, leaving a wife, son and daughter and a host of friends to mourn the loss of one of the most genial and best-hearted (sic) men that ever lived. The writer of this has been intimately acquainted with Capt. Silas Haight for thirty years. For a long time he was agent for the Keokuk Packet Company at Keokuk, and afterwards superintended the building of several boats for that line, and was the trusted friend of Capt. John S. McCune. In later years he was manager of the Pittsburg Coat Mines and Orchard Mines. He then retired to his farm, back of Dubuque, where he has resided for the last five years, until his death. Silas Haight was an honest man. "
