A message from W. A. Friend, of Berkley, Calif. received Wednesday morning, brought the sad news of the sudden death of Mr. A. B. Terril, which occurred at that place at eleven o'clock last night.

Mr. Terril and his wife had been spending several weeks with friends in the northern part of California, and left that section of the state on Thursday of last week for a short visit in Berkley and San Francisco. Mr. Terril had been in the enjoyment of good health up to within a very short time of his death. Heart trouble is given as the cause of death.

Word was received late last night that Mrs. Terril will arrive with the remains on Saturday, and funeral services will be held on Monday afternoon. Rev. H. W. Tuttle of Grinnell will preach the sermon. Rev. J. Moore of Waterloo will also assist the pastor, Rev. W. J. Suckow, in the services.

Aaron B. Terril was born in Lorain county, Ohio, June 25, 1843. A goodly portion of Mr. Terril's early life was spent in the west. In 1868 Mr. Terril joined his father in the grocery business in Manchester, the firm being know as Terril & Son. After several years of business life Mr. Terril entered the State University at Iowa City for the study of medicine. He graduated from that institution in 1881. After completing his medical course he re-entered the grocery business and continued in the same for eighteen years. When his country's call for volunteers came, he enlisted as a corporal, joining Company I, Fourth Cavalry on the 7th of August, 1862. On the 28th of August of the same year, he mustered in and went to the front, pledged to support his country as a soldier. In an engagement he was taken prisoner, but was paroled on January 26th, 1863, and later was discharged at Columbus, Ohio, for disability contracted in service, on the 12th day of January, 1864. During the time he was in the service of his country his regiment participated in some ninety engagements.

On February 7th 1866, at Elyria, Ohio, Mr. Terril was united in marriage with Miss Louise E. Tuttle To them were born two daughters, Lillian Louise Terril, who passed away March 31st, 1907, and Miss Blanche M. Terril of this city. Mrs. Terril passed away at her home here on August 30th, 1905.

On the 9th of November, 1910, Mr. Terril was united in marriage with Mrs. Nellie Ransom, of Fortuna, California. As stated Mr. Terril and his wife had been spending several weeks among friends and relatives of Mrs. Terril's in California, and it is a source of profound sorrow that their trip, which both so much enjoyed, should come to such a sudden and sad ending. The sorrow that has so unexpectedly come upon the wife, who will be called upon to make the homeward journey in loneliness, and the daughter, who had hoped to join her father in the west this summer, is shared by a host of friends in this city.

Mr. Terril united with the Congregational church on April 3rd, 1870. He served as a deacon for the past twenty years, and for a number of years was a member of the board of trustees, and chairman of the finance committee. For fourteen Sunday school and was at the head years he was superintendent of the County Sunday School association for many years. His unselfish devotion to the church which he loved, prompted him to give of his means and time in a most generous manner. He was a member of W. A. Morse post, G. A. R., and took great delight in associating with the few remaining veterans, many of whom braved similar dangers in the dark days of this nation.

In his death the First Congregational church of this city loses one of its most devoted members, the community a Christian citizen, and his family a devoted husband and father.
