Hopkinton, Ia. -- Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist Church for R.E. Goss, 78, who died at his home here early Thursday morning.

He was born in Cottonwood County, Minnesota, on July 18, 1855. In his younger years he was actively engaged in the teaching profession, having taught at Elizabeth, Ill., New Sharon, Ia., and Waubesha, Minn. Later when forced to close due to ill heath, he began selling nursery stock and writing insurance.

He was twice married. His second wife, the former Adah Hopkins, preceded him in death several years ago. Three children were born to the first union: George, who died in 1896, Mabel, who died in Chicago in 1913, and Z.E. Goss, who lives at Ryan.
