EARLVILLE, Iowa - Floyd L. Carpenter, 78, of Earlville, died Saturday morning, Nov. 10, 2001, at home from cancer.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Earlville, with the Rev. Roger McKinstry officiating. Lunch will be held at the Earlville United Parish Church. Private burial will be held at a later date in Fairview Cemetery, Earlville. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Clifton Funeral Home, Earlville, and after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Floyd, the son of Ernest and Hilda (Schmitz) Carpenter, was born on Nov. 11, 1922, on the family farm north of Earlville. He married Darlene M. Brockhohn on Nov. 3, 1954, at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, rural Monticello. They worked together on the family dairy farm where he was born until 1995, when they moved into Earlville.

He attended Almoral Country School and graduated from Oneida High School in 1939. Floyd enjoyed being involved in the church and community and working their lawn care business.

Surviving are his wife, Darlene; a daughter, Penny Jo Carpenter, of Manchester; a son, Donald Max Carpenter, of Earlville; a brother, Ernest (Mary Jane) Carpenter, of Clear Lake; two brothers-in-law, Ralph Gillmore, of Springville, and Lawrence (Dorothy) Brockhohn, of Anamosa; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Francis; two sisters, Delpha Gull and Genevieve Gillmore; and a nephew, David Gull.
