PEOSTA, Iowa -- Carol M. Ortberg, 69, of Peosta, died Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, from complications from a cerebral hemorrhage.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 18, at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, Dubuque, with the Rev. Dianne Christopher officiating. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Fairview Cemetery, Earlville. The Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Earlville, is in charge of arrangements.
She was born on April 15, 1941, in Earlville, daughter of Louis and Louise (Lechtenberg) Koelker. She graduated from Earlville High School in 1958, and Capri Cosmetology School in Dubuque in 1969.
She married Robert Ortberg on Oct. 30, 1958, in Earlville.
Carol retired in 2000 from the Dubuque Community School System after 22 1/2 years of service. She very much enjoyed working with children.
She was a member of the St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Dubuque.
For the past 10 years, Carol and Robert enjoyed spending winters in Lake Placid, Fla.
Surviving are her husband, Robert Ortberg, of Peosta; four children, Eric (Karen) Ortberg, of Waconia, Minn., Robert "Kelly" (Valerie) Ortberg, of Cedar Rapids, Todd (Connie) Ortberg, of Carver, Minn., Kera (Dave Wydman) Ortberg, of Barrington, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Jason Ortberg, Ryan (Angie) Ortberg, Kaitlyn Ortberg, Abigail Ortberg, Alex Ortberg, Caroline Wydman and Maggie Wydman; a great-grandson, Kale Ortberg; three sisters, Verna Hawker, Marilyn Michael and Lois (Harry) Lahr; and two sisters-in-law, Betty Koelker and Bernice Koelker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Louise Koelker; and two brothers, Louis "Bud" Koelker and Llewellyn Koelker.
