Alberta M. Reth, 84, died Friday evening, July 11, 2003, in St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, from complications following a stroke she suffered April 27, 2003. Services - 10 a.m. Monday, United Methodist Church, Manchester, by the Rev. Roger Henry and the Rev. Julie May. Burial - Fairview Cemetery, Earlville. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Clifton Funeral Home, Earlville, and after 9 a.m. Monday at the church.
Alberta, the daughter of Albert and Laura Strief Cooksley, was born May 3, 1919, in Earlville. She received her education in rural schools. On Feb. 23, 1941, she was united in marriage to Harold L. Reth at the United Methodist Church in Earlville. She was a vital partner in their farming operation for 62 years in the Delhi and Hopkinton area.
She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother - a quiet, solid center of a large family. She enjoyed being surrounded by family who will miss her quiet strength and dignity.
Surviving besides her husband, Harold L., are three daughters, Marie (Gerald) Blumhagen of Castalia, Wilma (Louie) Parsons of Hopkinton and Bertha (Bob) Tribuno of Cedar Rapids; four sons, Virgil (Joan) Reth and Danny (Julie) Reth, both of Delhi, and Harold C. (Laura) Reth and Randy (Diane) Reth, both of Hopkinton; a daughter-in-law, Marlene Reth of Manchester; 26 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Gilbert Cooksley of Earlville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Donald; two sons, Don in 2001 and Glen in 1965; a son-in-law, Herb Bishop in 1981; and a grandson, Carter Reth in 1997.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Good Neighbor Home.
